Kagrra – SYU

So the album begins with ぱらいぞ/paraizo which personally is my favourite track. It’s such a traditional sounding song- for all those “satsuki” loving people, you will definately like this track. It’s really a great way to kick start the album which a down-to-Earth feel. You just know this album is something special.

Then there’s 渦 /Uzu. Obviously this was released as a single so most people have heard it before. At first listen I didn’t think much of this song, but after listening to it on the album, it seems- different. It just fits in with the style of the album.

蓮 /ren is another fab song on this album. It begins a bit rock like and just when you think, “ah it’s just another random vk song,” it kicks in and the traditional sounds intertwine with the guitars wonderfully 8D!

Next 嘆美なる死への憧憬/tanbi naru shie no shoukei. It’s a bit more rocky then traditional like. In fact, it is a fairly average rock song. Nothing hugely special about it but it doesn’t feel alienated in the album. Worth the listen but nothing particularly memorable in the melody. Well- that’s what I feel =/!

Then track 5 桜月夜/sakurazukiyo. This is a bit tuned down tempo and mood wise. It maintains it’s “Kagrra, ness” about it and it’s a nice song to listen to. The chorus is pretty to listen to as well ^-^! And the little guitar solo near the end of the song isn’t too shabby.

鬼哭啾愀/kikokusyuusyuu leads on very nicely from 桜月夜/sakurazukiyo. It’s a step up from the previous track. Starts of with the continuous guitar riff which leads into the singing. It maintains the same sort of range until it hits the chorus where the guitars really kick in. Another pleasing track.

At first, 咒葬/jyusou sounds a bit dark and captivating but then it kicks in and although it sounds like another VK song, there’s something edgy about it which seperates it from the usual stuff. Also contains some traditional sounds within it which is interesting to hear in this kind of song.

素晴らしきかな?人生/subarashiki ka na? jinsei isn’t one of my favourites but I can see why some people might end up liking it. It’s a different rock song with a variation of tempo and sounds throughout, starting with a very interesting melody which leads into some hard rock riffs.

Another typical rock song, 永遠に、、、/towani has some nice guitar riffs to start it off- which last almost a minute before the singing begins. I think this song is mostly nice to listen to just for the progression of guitar riffs. Yet again, tisn’t one of my favourites.

And the last track, 鬼灯/Hoozuki is a interesting way to end the album. It kind of rounds it all off- has a mixture of rock sounds, traditional sounds and a gentle melody which progresses into a something slightly harder, with the guitar solo rounding it off.

All in all, I’m quite impressed with the new album. I didn’t think they could come up with anything to match “san” but this album is right up there with it when it comes to rating.

Tracks I’d recommend: paraizo, ren and kikokusyuusyuu
